Kidnappers of Mr. Osahon Olusegun, Correspondent of the Guardian Newspaper in Bayelsa State, have contacted the wife, demanding for 5 Million Naira before he would be released.
The journalist who boarded a commercial bus was reportedly kidnapped by men of the underworld on Sunday on his way to Ughelli. The incident which happened on the Patani axis of the East-West road in Delta State left the driver of Sunny Eru Transport Company dead and the passengers abducted.
It was gathered that by Monday morning, five victims regained their freedom while
the abductors contacted Osahon’s wife through phone call on Tuesday to make their demand of 5 million naira.
A close family source who spoke on anonymity disclosed that if not for a female passenger, who was among the five freed victims of the abduction of Sunday, who came to the neighbourhood in Yenagao to narrate the ordeal, they were not aware of what happened, “what we know is that the journalist boarded a Sunny Eru bus on Sunday heading to Ughelli in order to board the train bound for Abuja.”
The girl said they boarded the same bus and she recognized him immediately, “he is someone I know at Punch road. We were in the bus travelling hitch free when the gunmen suddenly came out of the bush and attacked our bus.”
“The incident happened along Patani axis of the East-West road. The gunmen suddenly came out from the bush and started shooting directly at the bus. The driver was hit and he died instantly.”
“She said about five of them (3 from Delta, 2 from Yenagoa) amongst the passengers in the bus were miraculously released by the kidnappers on Monday morning around 8:30am while the rest of the passengers including Osahon were still held in captivity,”
The close family source said the girl was jittery and traumatized because of the experience.
