Following worsening insecurity in the country, the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to hasten action on the sack of the service chiefs.

In a statement signed by its President, Rt. Hon. Dame Dr. Esther Uduehi, she stated that “NILOWV is in support of the earlier demands of the Senate, House of Representatives and all other groups for the sack of the service chiefs for failing to live up to its responsibility of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.

The statement continues, “Boko Haram is still attacking ferociously, killing innocent and defenseless citizens in Borno, Plateau, Kaduna, Zamfara, Adamawa and Jigawa. The rise in the spate of violent attacks, killings, kidnapping by herdsmen, in the South South, South East and South West is alarming.

“The service chiefs have not been able to address the security challenges plaguing the country since 2015 when they were appointed by the President. We condemn in totality these lapses and find it highly unacceptable. The slaughtering of Nigerians on a daily basis is no longer acceptable.

Uduehi appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to hasten action in overhauling the leadership of the nation’s security agencies as they have fallen short of expectations. “They should be shown the way out as soon as possible so as to welcome new Competent service chiefs with Who will show just cause why they should be funded with taxpayers’ money.”
