A group of Niger Delta Women under the auspices of Niger Delta Women For Good Governance have drummed support for the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio for his Senate presidency bid.

The women drawn from the nine (9) states of Niger Delta, appealed to the federal lawmakers-elect to support the nominations of Akpabio, positing that, “Senator Akpabio is qualified for the office, having demonstrated loyalty to the party, to the president-elect, Bola Tinubu and his Leadership prowess which he has displayed over the years.”

In an interview with journalists shortly after it’s meeting in Abuja, the National Coordinator of the Group, Chief Mrs Victoria Ajokpaoghene, said; “We a group of Niger Delta Women drawn from the nine (9) States of the region, after our meeting today, resolved to solicit support for our brother, husband and son, Senator Godswill Akpabio’s Senate Presidency bid.

“Nigeria cannot afford an uncoordinated and unfriendly Senate leadership at this point where the country needs urgent and consolidated reforms for speedy economic growth and a huge turnaround in socio-economic indices.

“Akpabio remains the best choice for the senate presidency among senators-elect from Southern Nigeria and South-South geopolitical zone in particular. He has, over the years, displayed his leadership capacity in the various positions he has held.

“We plead with all the senators-elect to join hands to ensure Akpabio’s Senate Presidency is actualized, hence our support for him for the position of Senate President.”

On her part, the National Publicity Secretary of the Group, Mrs Emem Toyo-Abasi, said; “As a Local Government Council Chairman, Akpabio rally round all traditional rulers and opinion lenders in Akwa Ibom which gave him edge over others that made him to have over his Governorship seat. He is a youth-friendly leader and a man of foresight who is not only committed to the ideals of leadership and good governance.

“Senator Akpabio has earned the respect and trust of the leadership of the party and the president-elect and all other stakeholders. Therefore, his nomination as the next president of the Senate is very welcome.

“When he (Akpabio) was the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, there was massive transformation, and his legacy on infrastructural and human capacity development are still visibly seen in the State.

“We therefore unequivocally declare our unalloyed support of APC zoning of the Senate President to South-South geo-political Zone and throw our weight behind Senator Godswill Akpabio as the Senate President of the 5th Republic.”
