Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Delta State Council, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu has inaugurated Executive Committee for the State NUJ Cooperative Society, with task on them to galvanise members of the union to join.
The inauguration which was held at the temporary secretariat of the NUJ, Delta State Council, Asaba, had in attendance top leaders and members of the union.
Speaking at the inauguration, Comrade Ikeogwu, said the cooperative society was setup to help members who are in need of money access quick loan with low interest.
He stressed that the cooperative would help members to save from their earners in anticipation to invest it in a business or solve possible issues in the future.
The Chairman, said the cooperative was one of his campaign promises to make journalists to be financially independent in order to discharge their duties effectively.
Accordingly him, “I am optimistic that the cooperative project will positively affect the life style of members of the union. So, I urge all members of the cooperative society to give their best because I believe in your capacity and revered integrity to effectively execute the task ahead”.
In his response, Chairman of the Committee, Rt. Hon. Sunday Apah, thanked Comrade Ikeogwu and other members of State Executive for finding them worthy to carry out the onerous task.
He assured them that they will give their best in providing a platform for the cooperative society to strive, enviable among other cooperative societies in the state.
Other members of the committee are Comrade Monday Osayande, Vice Chairman; Comrade Kenneth Obieh, Secretary; Comrade Anthonia Mowah, Treasurer and Comrade Samuel Erhumwunse, Assistant Secretary.
