Ogbemure Imene, Publisher of The Urhobo Voice Newspaper, has tasked the new executives of parents/guidance forum of Western Delta University, Oghara to be driven by love while laboring for the betterment of the school.
Ogbemure Imene stated this over the weekend at the university’s auditorium while handing over as chairman of parents/guidance forum of Western Delta University, Oghara from 2014-2022. He said “this idea of parents/guidance forum is good but we have to nurture the idea and love is the key. The essence of evolution of progress is that people must contribute and love is the driving force.
Continuing he said “the task before you is not as hard as it was in our time because the school authority then said they had inaugurated two parents/guidance forum executives that never saw the light of day until ours and within two weeks of inauguration, we set into motion and an account was opened for the purpose of accountability. We so much wanted the school to grow, so we tasked ourselves to do the best we could.
“Every school needs population and population comes from good publicity so we set out to create awareness of the existence of the school and what is being taught here. From the ten thousand naira paid by each student to the coffer of the parents/guidance forum account, we were able to give nine million naira to the school authority to pay salaries when they were challenged because we felt building a cafeteria or buying a luxurious bus without quality personnel was penny wise pound foolish.
Ogbemure added that, “Everything grows so I encourage you to make the parents/guidance forum much more effective and bring lots of improvement upon our era. Through this body, with love leading there should not be anything the school should lack. You must add in your own little way to the beauty of this school, you must add value to the purpose, also give relieve and more joy to the school authority.” He said
Earlier in his welcome address. Professor Augustine Ikelegbe, Vice Chancellor of Western Delta University, Oghara said that the academic programmes of the institution are being expanded to include Post-Graduate Programmes and a new College of Applied Health Services. “We would soon receive approval to run B.Sc Nursing, B.Sc Medical Laboratory Science and Public Administration, Post Graduate programmes in Political Science, Business Administration and Accounting. Our programmes are fully accredited and we are expecting accreditation reports for two programmes. We have our own health centre with a full complement of medical personnel. There is a standing fully equipped ambulance at the health centre.
“The university permanent campus now has WI-FI. The student IT portal has been developed through an MOU with Wema Bank. Through this, management and parents would be able to monitor the class attendance, results and fees payment of students. The University operates a system for parents/guidance that has more than one ward, indigenes of Ethiope West and vulnerable students. We will strengthen visibility, reputation, quality and ranking of Western Delta University, through process in digital and internet facilities, improvement in teaching and research and improvement in the quality of our graduates.”
In his acceptance speech, newly elected Chairman of parents/guidance forum of Western Delta University, Oghara, Dr. Patrick Lofor promised that they would work hand in hand with the previous administration and the school management to build the university into a modern university that will be a centre of excellence.
