The Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, has stated that his administration in the past 90 days has concentrated on improving living conditions of the residents of the Local Government Area.
Barr. Jaro Egbo made this known recently while playing host to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ughelli Correspondents Chapel.
Egbo who is a Knight of St. Christopher disclosed that despite Ughelli North Local Government Area being larger than some countries in the world with population of over 600,000 people, 85 primary schools and 38 primary health centers, under his leadership, it was poised for growth and development.
According to him, “Every Monday, we hold prayers to entrust our administration to the guidance of God. We have established regular communication channels to ensure that all members of the local government area are informed and engaged,
“Improving primary school education is vital for the future of our youth. Therefore, we have proposed funding for enhanced facilities, collaborating with SUPEB for teacher training, and creating a conducive learning environment for our pupils.”
“As a government, in just 100 days of my tenure, we have successfully saved over N25,000,000 (Twenty-Five Million Naira) from our internally generated revenue — primarily through initiatives like the Local Government Identification Certificate, Birth Registration Certificate, and Marriage Registration. This funding has already been allocated for purchasing school uniforms, notebooks, and writing desks for our pupils in the Local Government Area.”
“I would like to express that I inherited offices in a very poor condition and have taken immediate steps to renovate the Chairman’s office, the Vice Chairman’s office, and the office of the Leader of the Legislative Arm to create a conducive working environment. I have also instructed the Head of the Works Department to prepare a Bill of Quantity for the complete renovation and furnishing of other offices.
“In addition, we have procured official vehicles for the offices of the Vice Chairman, Leader of the 8th Assembly, Secretary to the Local Government, Head of Personnel Management, and a Toyota Hiace bus for the Press Crew.
Addressing insecurity, which he noted was rampant before he assumed office, Egbo convened a Zonal Security Meeting that included his neighboring councils of Ughelli South and Udu.This collaborative effort has resulted in a relative peace that the community has been enjoying, though he expressed concern over a recent tragic incident in which the newly posted Divisional Police Officer for Agbarbo Division was murdered by criminals.
“Concerning the poor state of roads in the area I have met with the amiable Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who has promised to consider our proposal for the approval of funds to repair 20 kilometers of roads in the upcoming budget. Also my administration has embarked on the construction of an ultra-modern maternity health center, fully equipped with state-of-the-art amenities at the council’s headquarters.
“On environmental sanitation, those of us living in the metropolis can attest to my administration’s efforts to clean up Ughelli North. The Ughelli main market, once a chaotic scene with vendors selling along the road, has been transformed. The vendors have now been relocated inside the market, and the debris has been cleared. Our commitment to cleaning Ughelli is an ongoing priority.”
In response, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, Comrade Sunday Apah, commended Olorogun Jaro Egbo for his achievements as Chairman. “In just a few months in office, you have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the welfare of our community,” he stated.Your initiatives in health, your procurement of vehicles for our political leaders, and your focus on enhancing our security measures align with the pressing needs of our citizens.”
“Moreover, your emphasis on verifying news and collaborating with journalists highlights your understanding of the crucial role communication plays in governance. We are particularly grateful for your recognition and decision to appoint one of our own as an eye to us and part of your administration.
“This decision not only underscores your commitment to inclusivity but also strengthens the bond between our local government and the journalism community in Ughelli North. With your leadership and focus on collaboration, we believe our partnership can yield significant benefits for both the local government and the broader community.”
