The Isoko Christians Political Movement, ICPM has urged youths in Delta State and Nigeria at large to shun the planned nationwide protest against economic hardship in the country, advocating patience and cooperation with government.
The Christians Group, in a statement by it’s President, Ven Augustine Ovie (Justice of the Peace), said “Our Christians Political Structure does not support the protest since we have confidence in God to inspire our Christian brother Governor and Representative to restore all that the cancer worms have eaten”.
He urged organizers of the protest to engage in constructive dialogue with government, saying that the protest, if carried out could be counter productive and further aggravate the perilous times we find ourselves in this world. “We can’t be architects of our own misfortune by adding petrol to fire.
“We cannot easily forget what happened in previous nationwide protests especially that of the #Endsars protest which was hijacked by hoodlums and led to the deaths of some persons and destruction of properties.
“Again, embarking on the protest will worsen the security situation in the country as criminals will take advantage of the situation to attack innocent citizens”.
“We know that times are very hard (although not restricted to Nigeria) as some have propounded, but we should not do things that will end up in regret. We Nigerians should give our elected government a chance to fulfil thier promise of making life more meaningful for the people.
“As Christians we must not forget that by strife no man can prevail. No good thing comes easily. We are not ignorant of the law and divine principle of sowing and reaping. When a woman is to be escorted to you as wife tomorrow, there is no need breaking the door today”.
“Patience is required to grow wealth and prosperity; there is hope at the end of the tunnel. Remember that the mess was not created by the government of one year who accepted liabilities to solve.
Let’s be hopeful.
“In Delta State, we can testify that the Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori led administration has been taking visible steps through its policies and programmes to improve the economic well-being of the people of the state.
“Here in Isoko in particular, the member representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Pst. Jonathan Ukodhiko has been very supportive and giving effective representation to his constituents, for which we need to be appreciative”.
“Let’s give peace a chance and give our leaders time to put the country back on track through the enabling grace and power of God. As Christians who are expected to be our brothers keeper, if we know the way forward to relieve our country predicament, we should not hesitate to come out with that laudable suggestions through our Representatives. We therefore appeal to our youths in Isoko, Delta State and Nigeria at large to shun the protest.”
The group’s President, a former Isoko South Local Government Councillor called all Christians to pray God to enable the President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State receive wisdom, guidance and courage on the way forward to Nigeria prosperity.
The ICPM President further stated that he has directed the 865 canvassers within the 402 polling units across the 24 wards in Isoko North and South Local Government Areas to pass on the message of hope, peace and tranquility to Christians in their homes in solidarity with the Christian Governor and Representative we have elected to bring about the expected change desired by Christians in Isoko.
