news

Chairman of Elders of Delta Ijaw known as ‘Izon Okosu-Otu’ Forum, Chief Bare Etolor has stated that aspirants who contested against the rotational agreement in Delta state have always lost elections.

Chief Etolor who made this known when the leadership of the Delta Central 2023 lobby group paid visit to Ijaw National Congress at Kpakiama, Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State said rotation of governorship in order of senatorial districts remains the best and most peaceful system.

He noted that some aspirants who ignored the senatorial districts rotational order in time past and went ahead to contest never won elections.

“it is very safe to go by senatorial rotation. If we go by ethnic rotation, some of us will not see more than three governors. After this session, there will be an inner session.

“What people are afraid of is honesty, there is a natural endorsement of senatorial rotation in Delta state that was why when some Urhobos and Ijaws contested against Delta North aspirant, they all failed. When they also did same to Delta South aspirant they all failed.

He lamemted that the only problem the Ijaws had was that they have not been fully carried along by those who have been governors in Delta state. “That has been our annoyance, for example, the only state institution we have is the Marine School of Technology by name, it remains unaccredited to date after over six years of its establishment

“We know we have right to contest but we need to have deeper discussions to come to conclusion. We Izon elders are not afraid to talk because we are not members of any political party”, he added.
