A political group within the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Delta United for Democratic Dividends, has called for caution over the recent wave of suspension sweeping across the party.
The group described the situation as a calculated attempt by enemies of the party to further deepen the failing fortunes of the party in the state.
According to a statement by its coordinator, Ovie Ojarikre, they called on the state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to intervene by ordering a holistic investigation before punishments are meted on alleged erring members.
The statement reads in part, “We Members of the above named Association has watched with nostalgia the fall outs of the Nations General Elections and how it affects our great Party the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the season of mudslinging by anti democratic forces and the consequences it would have on our Political Party going forward.
It’s no longer news that our Party suffered collosal loss in the just concluded Elections against the run of play and the reasons no doubt aren’t far fetched but for the purpose of this work would be summarized thus;
Firstly, Your Excellency desire to make Rt Hon Sheriff Oboroevwori as your Successor did not go down well with some Party Leaders who felt it’s their right to choose who take over from you and secondly, Your desire to contest for the coveted position of Vice President of the Federal Republic vexed Party Leaders too.They were heard saying that since you knew where contesting you should have allowed them present the State Governor.
“Going further , it’s imperative to state in pellucid terms that the Obidients Wave too affected the Party greatly as known Party Members were carried away by the Obi tsunami.it was therefore against this background that the Party could not win the February 25th General Elections as expected.
We members of the above named Association an integral part of the Party in the State were taken aback with this development.We worked assiduously with your Excellency to fashion out a more successful Guber poll by reaching out to electorates on all divides and the victory we savour today is a testimony of everyone’s hard work.
Unfortunately, instead of thanking God and looking at the possibilities of correcting all perceived shortfalls, the Power Grabbers are at it again, this time they have taken to painting People for what they are not, telling lies with so much impunity all in a bid to get Political recognition.
“Those who could not even win Elections in their Units and Wards painted stories of hijacking by thugs are the same Person’s now accusing others of being anti Party. People are now being made to suffer for working for the Party.
The Executive Committee of Ughelli North has been dissolved, the Chairman of Ndokwa East is presently on suspension as the House of Assembly has commences investigation into the matter; salaries of SAs, SSAs and EAs are on hold because of the same subject.
No doubt this is against the law of Natural justice and is repugnant.Our fears are that the innocent would suffer for no fault of theirs and consequently ask that Your Excellency should as a matter of urgency set up a fact finding team to unravel all the issues as it affects Persons accused of anti Party activities.
“We make bold to say there are lots of lies been peddled in the Party space.
“With all honesty, your Excellency we are writing you this Letter so that we don’t create more problems in trying to solve one.No organisation thrives in an environment of injustice.Punishing People for offence they did not commit means standing justice on its head and would only devalue our Party in the eyes of Peace loving People of our great State.”
