Commissioner of police, Delta State Hafiz M. Inuwa has applauded the Police Community Relations Committee PCRC robust support in ensuring security of lives and properties in the state.
Hafiz Inuwa addressing newsmen recently at the first security stakeholder’s summit/peace security award to deserving benefactors/reception for ACP Adamu Lawal Shinkafi organized by the Ughelli Area Command PCRC, stated that the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC has been with the State Command through thick and thin sensitizing the public in areas that cannot be effectively covered by the Nigerian Police Force considering their staff strength.
Hafiz M. Inuwa who was represented by the Area Commander Ughelli ACP Adamu Lawal Shinkafi said “since inauguration by the then Inspector General of Police Edet Etim Inyang, Police Community Relations Committee has been functional and effective. Security is everybody’s business and PCRC performance in terms of logistic, image building of the police, financial assistance, infrastructural development and sensitizing the public has been excellent. So we will continue to partner with them in order for Deltans to sleep with their two eyes closed as well as securing their properties.
“We have been doing our best and shall continue to do so but we need the cooperation of all, please monitor suspicious movements ,strange happenings and possibly alert those in authorities because security agents are not spirits but work with information given to them. We have made plans and working assiduously to ensure that ember months and security challenges in every community is brought to the barest minimum.”
Earlier in his address chairman of the occasion Olorogun Dr. Isaac Apoveta, chairman of Delta State Contributory Health Commission, said community policing is the in thing worldwide and should be adopted in Nigeria because of its success rate. “More people need to join in the advocacy for community policing because our peace depends on security.
“With the cooperation of members of my community-Ufuoma the police have swept away 90% of internet fraudsters also known as Yahoo Boys that took over the town. They were everywhere small boys 17-25 years old but as I speak to you now there is little or non-left as we ensured that we inform the police early enough of any misbehaviour and the police came in quietly and sieved them out. Now the community is more peaceful than ever before.
“I encourage PCRC to be more proactive and action driven, they should come to us if they have any problem and we will support them so that they can do their work better. Police hotlines are available everywhere so every community should promote community policing by reporting suspicious characters early so that the police can prevent them from committing heinous crimes.”
On his part, Comrade Egbagbara Omarayerue Blessing, Chairman, PCRC Ughelli Area Committee said, “Security and Peace are two essential commodities not to be left for only one man or agency to handle as it has devastating effects in the society and community if poorly handled. We are doing our best to make sure the communities under the jurisdiction of the Ughelli Area Command and Delta State is efficiently policed. I will enjoin our patrons and awardees to please join hand with us to support the police to make the dream of efficient and effective policing of the command a reality.”
