Tragedy struck recently at 126 Upper Afiesere Road, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, as business centre and home to Owhotu Endurance and Ufuoma Imotu was completely gutted.

 

The fire, according to sources was said to have been ignited when power was restored and immediately turned off by BEDC. Residents living around the building were thrown into total chaos as all preventive measures to stop it from escalating proved abortive as the fire consumed goods, properties and the building.

Fielding questions from newsmen at the scene of the incident, Owhotu Endurance, a cake designer, decorator and principal agent to golden chance and green lotto said she received a phone call by 1am that ill-fated night that her shop was on fire when she got there, her neighbor and her could not pick anything from the burning building .“I want government to come to my aid because I have lost everything all I have labored for these past seven years has been destroyed in just four hours.

“Whereas my neighbour uses her shop and room for wholesale provision business I live and do business in that place. As a matter of fact If I had not gone out that night I do not know what would have become of me because all my savings about 150,000, naira, decoration materials, cake equipment’s,7 lotto machines, television, clothes, deep freezer that I use in selling cold drinks, water was burnt down.

“I also sell children items-school bags, food flask, lunch boxes, water bottles, school shoes and male slippers but everything also got burnt. Now I am left with the clothes on my back with no place to call home. I am the eldest child of my parents, my dad is late, my mum is in her sixties back in the village, my younger ones depend on me. I need help to start all over again.
