Business Man Arraigned For Illegal Possession Of Firearms In Delta

The Nigeria Inspector General of Police has arraigned a Delta business man, Mr. Paul Tuoma Okene before a Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State,  under Justice Emeka Nwite, on a four count charges of illegal possession of two firearms with 38 live ammunitions.

Though the case was adjourned till October 28, 2020 for hearing, it was gathered that the charges against the defendant, Mr Paul Tuoma Okene of Eku in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the State by the Inspector General of Police are punishable under the Firearms Cap F28 laws.

Our correspondent gathered that, the defendant, Mr. Paul Tuoma Okene, a business man was arrested on the 26 June, 2020 for the possession firearms with live ammunitions without licence or authority.

The suspect who has long been granted an administrative bail appeared in court on the 24th of July, 2020 to answer to four count charges levelled against him by the Inspector General of Police.

The charges which include, possession of One Pump Action Gun, with number, RICOL 15-0829, 36 live Cartridges, one Double Barrel Gun with number OJKAL 15-9191 and two live cartridges, all offenses punishable under section 27(1) (a) (i) &(iv) of Firearms Act Cap F28 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, was brought before the court under suit no: FHC/WR/64C/2020.

The suspect could not be formally arraigned as the case listed as number 5 on the cause list for plea on Friday 24th July 2020, as the presiding Judge, was unavoidably absent and the matter was adjourned.
