Another history was made today, Saturday 4th November 2023 as Ughelli Descendants Union (U.D.U.) successfully inaugurated a 17-man Executive Committee as apex organisation of the Great Ughelli Kingdom. The epoch-making event took place at the traditional headquarters of the Kingdom at Otovwodo-Ughelli in Ughelli North Council Area of Delta State under the royal guidance and blessings of the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, Evangelist Dr. Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi III JP with active participation of delegates from 22 communities that make up the Kingdom.
Chief Samuel Akpimegi emerged the President-General with Chief Superior Umurhohwo – First Vice President General, Chief Edward Omotubu – Second Vice President-General and Omiragwa Paul Edemu the Secretary-General. Others include Amb. Prince Andrew Odibo – Treasurer, Hon. Benjamin Idoghor – Assistant Secretary-General, Chief Ese Ughelli- Financial Secretary, Omiragwa Onajite Erhabor – Assistant Financial Secretary, Chief Gladys Agbah Ovie – Organising Secretary, Dr. Victor Omoraka – Publicity Secretary, Miss Jite Onojegbe – Assistant Publicity Secretary, Comrade Reuben Odjogho – Internal Auditor, Barr. Joseph Ekete – Legal Adviser, Hon. Pat Tobore Aregbor O. Eyarefe – Woman Leader, Hon. Sunny Oferen – Youth Leader, Chief Owin Eruvbedede – Assistant Woman Leader and Comrade Ophori Ogheneovo – Assistant Youth Leader.
The President-General, Chief Samuel Akpimegi
in his Inaugural speech, promised to work in accordance with the laws and traditions of the Kingdom while promoting its rich socio-cultural heritage at every given opportunity. He pledged his unflinching loyalty to the traditional authority of the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom. He also expressed the readiness of his Executive Team to partner with critical stakeholders to attract investments capable of bringing meaningful development to the Kingdom.
The event also had in attendance the Otota of Ughelli Kingdom, Olorogun Peter Akpofure, the Okpako Ilorogun and Chairman, Ughelli Council of Chiefs Olorogun Miller Uloho, past Presidents-General Olorogun Austin Uloho and Olorogun Major Patrick Egone Rtd., DESOPADEC Commissioner representing Ughelli Sylvester Ovbije and so many other dignitaries.
