Prof. Rim-Rukeh who made this observations during his welcome address at the 4th Inaugural Lecture Series of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, FUPRE, held at the Twin Lecture Hall of the Institution, said this ceremony is one of the historic moment of the institution.

While welcoming Prof. Olatunde Damisa, a Professor of Acoustics and Vibration Technology, Prof. Rim-Rukeh described the topic of the lecture: “At Or Beyond Resonance”, as timely, recalling that the topic has reminded him of a physics question he answered back in the 70s, his days in Secondary school.

Acknowledging all who attended the 4th Inaugural Lecture Series of the Institution, Prof. Rim-Rukeh said this was his first public function since he assumed office as the Vice Chancellor of the Institution, describing the event as a big remark in his administration.

In his lecture, Prof. Damisa whose lecture was centred on human body motion, affirmed that life cannot exist without vibration, saying that man has always sought to understand more of the mechanics of this phenomenon.

He disclosed that most human activities involves in vibration in one form or the other, adding that hence all engineering activities have to contend with it as a nuisance or appreciate it as an advantage.

Speaking further, Prof.Damisa said Resonance is when a body or structure is undergoing vibration in front and back motion at some frequency, and that this is caused by one of two factors which he named as forcing frequency and natural frequency.

On some benefits of vibration, Prof. Damisa said in spite of the nuisance effects of vibration, it can be utilized profitably in several ways through consumer and industrial applications, pointing out that the importance of the inaugural lecture is to have a better operations and safety of equipment and personnels in the oil fields.
