Delta State Govt Plans to Enhance Commuter Safety, Security Through Transport Data Management Scheme

Hon. Onoriode Agofure, the Commissioner for Transport in Delta State, has confirmed the government’s commitment to implementing an improved Transport Data Scheme aimed at enhancing the safety and security of commuters throughout the state.


Agofure emphasized that the M.O.R.E Agenda of the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has introduced a comprehensive Transport Data Management Scheme, which includes barcodes, stickers, and identification cards for all commercial vehicle drivers operating on the state’s roads.


The Commissioner revealed that there will be extensive awareness and sensitization campaigns throughout the month of December. He further explained that these efforts are intended to familiarize drivers, commuters, and the general public with the new Transport Data Management Scheme.


Agofure emphasized that the main goal of the initiative is to establish a robust data management system for commercial vehicles, incorporating improved tracking mechanisms for all registered drivers.


The State Government is concerned about the safety of passengers, as emphasized by the Commissioner to enhance passenger safety, strategic measures are being taken, including the introduction of bar codes and stickers. These measures are intended to address issues such as theft, robberies, and unforeseen circumstances.


Passengers are encouraged to actively engage in this safety initiative by scanning the bar codes before boarding tricycles (keke) or commercial vehicles. Additionally, they are urged to share the scanned information with their loved ones to keep them informed about their whereabouts in real time.


Furthermore, the State Government has called on commercial vehicle operators and park operators to participate in the scheme. This collaboration is aimed at establishing a symbiotic relationship with the government, ensuring the success of the safety measures.
