Help Us Tackle Insecurity Akpemegi Appeals To Delta State Gov’t

The President-General of Ughelli Descendants Union (UDU), Olorogun Samuel Akpemegi has appealed to the  Delta State Government to help Ughelli Kingdom tackle growing insecurity challenges especially kidnapping, assassination and communal clashes.

 

Olorogun Akpemegi, made this appeal recently when he received members of the Ughelli Correspondent Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

 

 

According to him, ” My major concern  right from the day I came in as President General, has been how there can be peace and development in the area. My first meeting was with our Traditional Ruler, HRM  Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi Ill, Security Personnel and all Organs of government within Ughelli kingdom, and the agenda was on how to improve on the security situation of the kingdom because the issue of security and welfare of the people cannot be handled by one man alone.

 

“I appeal to the state government to actually come up with ways in which  they can assist Ughelli kingdom tackle the issue of insecurity. Because where there is no security, the economy of the place will be low. My goal is to ensure that the kingdom witness rapid development in every area  and for the people whether indigene or non indigene to feel safe and secured in the land.

 

Continuing he said ” we also seek help from the state government in the area of education,  most especially the issue of scholarship because it is not everyone that actually have the finance to see their children through school.”

 

Earlier on in his speech, the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ughelli Correspondent Chapel, Comrade Sunday Apah, expressed his sincere gratitude to the President General and the entire leadership of the Ughelli Descendants Union for granting his members the audience.

 

He said; “This visit signifies the importance of fostering a strong relationship between our two organizations, working towards a common goal of promoting the welfare and development of our beloved Ughelli Kingdom.

 

“As journalists, our duty is to serve as the voice of the people. We are entrusted with the responsibility of disseminating news and information that is accurate, unbiased, and relevant to the public interest. We strive to uphold the principles of press freedom, transparency, and accountability in our pursuit of truth and justice.

 

“The Ughelli Descendants Union, on the other hand, is a noble organization that represents the aspirations and concerns of the Ughelli community. It plays a pivotal role in preserving our cultural heritage, promoting social cohesion, and driving community development initiatives. Together, we can forge a strong alliance that will bring about positive change and progress in Ughelli.

 

“Furthermore, I would like to emphasize the importance of empowering and supporting journalists in our community. Journalists play a critical role in holding the government and other institutions accountable. Therefore, it is essential that we provide them with the necessary training, resources, and protection to carry out their duties effectively and safely. We must promote a culture of professionalism and ensure that journalists are adequately remunerated for their work.

 

“I want to once again express my gratitude to the President General and the Ughelli Descendants Union for hosting us today. I believe that this courtesy visit marks the beginning of a fruitful partnership between our organizations. Let us work hand in hand to promote the interests of the Ughelli community, to uplift our people, and to contribute to the overall development and progress of our beloved nation, Nigeria.”
