One person has been shot dead and another injured in a suspected cult related clash between two rival groups at Ekakpamre community, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State.
The deceased, simply identified as Ibeni Champion was allegedly shot dead by a rival cult group that has been terrorizing the community.
It was learned that the clash, which began Monday night, continued on Tuesday, causing tension within the community as commercial activities have been crumbled.
According to sources, the deceased was killed yesterday at about 4am and another was injured in the melee.
“Presently, there is tension in the community. Shops have been closed down and people can barely move around”.
Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, DSP Bright Edafe who confirmed the incident, said, one person was shot dead by suspected cultists.
He however denied the allegations that the post shot and injured another. Nobody was shot and injured by the police and no police vehicle was destroyed as reported.
“The Divisional Police Officer of the Otu-Jeremi divisional headquarters had led his men to restore normalcy to the community and the police are on the trail of those behind the killing”.
